The Printing of Money, Part 1:
Since October 1, 1877, all U.S. currency has been printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which started as a six-person operation using steam powered presses in the basement of the Department of Treasury. Now, 2,300 Bureau employees occupy twenty-five acres of floor space in two Washington, D.C. buildings. The Treasury also operates a satellite printing plant in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Help Customers Create Better POP Displays
In today’s challenging economy, getting promotional materials noticed is just one of the many obstacles to overcome. Retail point-of-purchase (POP) displays vying for space and attention are no exception. Fortunately, binderies, printers and POP customers all want the same thing: sell more product at point-of-sale.
Here are some thoughts that graphic arts service providers can keep in mind when talking with POP customers and prospects. POP displays work best when they’re:
- Timely. Consider shorter use POP displays tied to specific holidays. If you’re running errands any time soon, take a look at all the Halloween POPs in use now. Thanksgiving and Christmas displays are just around the corner. POP displays tied to major sporting events can help product move as well.
- Interactive. Anytime a customer touches a display, their hand is close to product. Since most POPs house impulse items, the closer the consumer’s hand gets to the actual product, the closer a sale becomes. Consider adding spinning wheels, pockets for fliers, brochures or other promo materials, tear-off coupon pads or similar interactive devices.
- People-oriented. People notice people. POP displays with a “spokesperson” may outperform those without. Die cutting the individual out from the background isn’t a bad idea either.
About Mounting
Mounting is the process of gluing a printed sheet onto a heavier substrate and is a core process used in the manufacture of POP displays. Materials such as chipboard, foam board or corrugated board are all excellent choices for mounting substrates. Contact your post press services provider to learn more.

A shaky economy ripples panic throughout all industries. This is a crucial time to shore up business relationships and make them as personal as possible. Visit as many customers and prospects as you can and call the rest. Check each company’s individual business situations and carefully convey that you have their well being at heart. A good conversation will reassure them of your stability in tough times and can be the difference between a relationship ended during budget cuts and you serving as their life boat while riding out the storm.

Network, network, network. New technology has expanded how we make business and personal relationships. Services like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook offer free ways to connect with old friends and colleagues and share ideas with like-minded individuals you’ve never met. Social networking isn’t just for teenagers anymore. Use these tools to increase your professional knowledge and company reach.
